David de Carion
Dave de Carion is a 20 year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and decorated fighter pilot. He has over 3,700 hours in both single seat and crewed aircraft including the F/A-18 Hornet, T-45 Goshawk, Citation Ultra, and KingAir 350, and has been designated an instructor in all four aircraft. Additionally, Dave is a graduate of the Navy’s Ground Safety and Aviation Safety Officer Schools, as well as the Crew Resource Management Instructor Program.
Along with several other tours, Dave deployed to Iraq in 2003 and 2009, and Afghanistan in 2012. While with the first F/A-18 squadron deployed to Iraq, he led one of the first close air support missions during the opening night of “Operation Iraqi Freedom” in March of 2003. After completing that operational tour, he was selected to be a ground and flight instructor in the intermediate and advanced phases of strike flight training, where he earned a designation as a standardization teacher and evaluator for his fellow instructors and student pilots. It was here that he developed a true love of teaching, mentoring, and coaching.
Later, Dave was hand-picked to fly high priority missions and VIPs in the KingAir 350 and Citation Ultra. It was here where Dave credits the skills he learned in crew resource management training with saving his and his co-pilot’s life during an aircraft incident which could have easily become a fatal accident.
Dave earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Irvine, and Master’s Degree in Administrative Leadership from the University of Oklahoma. Much of his research and study during his master’s program focused on organizational culture and how to apply Crew Resource Management skills to the civilian sector, specifically the business and medical professions. He is an expert in evaluating organizational climates and cultures, designing and guiding cultural change, building cross-functional team cohesiveness, and time-critical decision making and informational flow.
Dave is a native of the Silicon Valley region of California and currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas, with his two children.
